ANC, the express delivery group, has awarded a three-year contract to IT outsourcer Digica. Under the deal, Digica will host and manage a high availability server for ANC at its Nottingham data centre, providing high availability for ANC's business-critical IT applications and avoiding costly downtime.
With more than 4000 people and 2200 vehicles, operating 24x7 from 105 locations, managing ANC's logistics operations is a complex job. The company ran its main operational administration system for the total ANC distribution network on one production server, which it identified as a single point of failure. It therefore decided to put in place a high availability solution, with a second, remotely-located server also running the administration system.
“We chose Digica because of the high standards of resilience and security it was able to provide as demonstrated by its ISO 17799:2000 accreditation, ” said Dean Brockley, Senior Technical Analyst at ANC. “We were also impressed by the professional approach and management skills of Digica's people.”
ANC's administration system is now hosted in two locations on a pair of mirrored IBM pSeries servers running AIX: the main production server at its Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire offices, and the high availability server at Digica in Nottingham.
